Chapter 9 - THE VIDEO FROM THE FITTING

Alyssa Grant, the junior seamstress, had not seen the shove.

She was in the restroom.

But the fitting suite had a security camera facing the entry.

Not the changing platform.

A mirror reflected part of the room.

Poorly.

Investigators obtained footage after Cecily’s complaint was reopened following the wedding assault.

Reflection:

Vanessa in gown.

Cecily kneeling near hem.

Vanessa stands quickly.

Cecily rises.

Argument.

No audio.

Vanessa’s arms move forward.

Cecily moves backward abruptly.

Disappears outside reflection.

Mirror stand shakes.

Then Owen crosses.

Enough to challenge the “independent trip.”

Not enough alone to prove precise force.

Then hotel corridor audio from a staff phone? No.

Better evidence came from Cecily’s smartwatch.

It had automatically detected a hard fall.

Timestamp.

No meaning for cause.

Just confirmed timing.

Then a text Vanessa sent Owen six minutes afterward:

I barely touched her.

Owen:

Do not text about this.

There.

Not:

What are you talking about?

Do not text.

Detective Mendes showed neither message to me immediately.

Owen later disclosed them through counsel.

The secret was becoming visible.

Chapter Ten showed it had a name.
