Chapter 8 - WHY VANESSA THOUGHT I WAS COMING FOR HER

Cecily asked me to confirm one small fact.
Had Vanessa been unusually angry before the fitting because of a stain on the gown lining?
I knew the answer.
Yes.
Three days before, Vanessa called me furious because the inner hem had picked up a faint gray mark from the atelier floor.
She said:
“If they can’t protect a dress for two weeks, how are they professionals?”
I told her:
“It is inside the hem.”
She answered:
“That is not the point.”
Then:
“People keep treating my wedding like small mistakes do not count.”
That sentence stayed with me.
I gave Cecily the factual answer.
Nothing more.
Her attorney later listed me as a potential witness to Vanessa’s pre-fitting agitation.
Owen found out.
He called.
“You’re getting involved?”
“She asked a question.”
“You know what this does.”
“What?”
“If Daniel learns you’re helping Cecily, Vanessa will think you are trying to end the wedding.”
“Then Vanessa should ask why factual answers can end her wedding.”
Owen hung up.
The next day Vanessa texted me:
Stay away from my vendors.
I replied:
Tell your brother to stop lying to them.
No answer.
At rehearsal dinner, she ignored me.
Wedding morning, she hugged me for photographs.
That was worse.
Then champagne hit her gown.
She looked at me.
All fourteen days of fear compressed into one belief:
Bianca did this to trigger me.

Bianca wants Daniel to see me lose control.
She chose to prove herself innocent of instability by shoving a pregnant woman into a fountain.
