Chapter 12 - LUCINDA’S LEGAL CONSEQUENCES

Lucinda’s conduct was more complicated.

Removing a prescribed medical brace from a child without permission.

Repeatedly.

One removal causing a fall.

Ignoring clear medical and legal instructions.

Authorities evaluated child-endangerment and battery-related charges under local law.

No kidnapping.

No attempted murder.

No fantasy sentence.

She ultimately entered a misdemeanor plea involving harmful interference with a child and endangering conduct.

Probation.

Counseling.

Community service.

No unsupervised contact with Ruby during the initial term.

No authority over Ruby’s medical care.

That last condition sounded absurdly obvious.

Yet we needed it written.

The family court was not involved because Lucinda had no custodial rights.

I controlled contact as Ruby’s parent within normal law.
