Chapter 17 - THE CLAIM SETTLEMENT

Ruby’s claim against the club’s insurer resolved through ordinary civil process.

Medical expenses.

Therapy.

Pain and disruption.

No permanent disability claim because there was none.

No fabricated millions.

The club and insurer reached a reasonable settlement approved in the manner required for a minor’s claim.

Funds designated appropriately for Ruby rather than handed to me as some Mafia compensation.

I did not negotiate personally.

Outside counsel.

Guardian procedures.

Court approval where required.

Lucinda hated that the settlement existed.

Later she admitted why.

“Every dollar felt like a receipt for my mistake.”

I answered:

“It wasn’t punishment.”

“I know.”

“It paid for harm.”

May you like

“I know.”

Took years for her to believe the difference.
