Chapter 26 - THE OLD BRACE

We found Ruby’s childhood brace in a storage box after I sold Villa Ventano’s family wing.
Velcro worn.
Plastic scratched.
Tiny.
I held it.
Ruby laughed.
“I was that small?”
“Yes.”
“What do we do with it?”
I almost said keep it.
History.
Then stopped.
“Your call.”
She checked whether medical-equipment recycling could accept the components.
Some parts recyclable.
Some discarded under proper waste guidance.
No shrine.
No display case.
No family museum label reading:
THE BRACE SALVATORE DEFENDED.
