Chapter 17 - THE TRUTH BEGINS TO UNFOLD

We drove in silence. Elena sat beside me, shivering.

When we were miles away, safe in a motel room far from the city, she spoke.

“He admitted it,” she said quietly. “The Guardian. He admitted Claire was his undoing.”

I nodded.

“He is desperate. He knows we have the truth. He knows we will expose him. But he will not stop. He will hunt us until one side is completely destroyed.”

We spent all night sorting through the files. Organizing. Verifying. Separating what could be released safely from what would trigger all-out war.

By morning, we had enough to bring down half his organization. Enough to open investigations. Enough to freeze his assets. Enough to make every loyal follower doubt their leader.

But not enough to guarantee Noah’s safety.

If we released everything now… the Guardian would lash out. He would burn cities to the ground. He would send every assassin he had. And he would not stop until he had Noah.

We had to be careful. Calculated. We had to strip away his power piece by piece. Until he had nothing left. No money. No influence. No loyal soldiers. Until he was just an old man with secrets and no way to hurt anyone.

That afternoon, we sent the first batch. Financial records. Property transfers. Payments to public officials.

By evening, the news broke.

Shockwaves. Resignations. Freezes. Investigations launched across three states.

The Circle began to fracture.

Marcus called me that night.

“I saw the reports,” he said. His voice sounded broken. Hollow. “He is destroying everything, Adrian. Covering his tracks. Killing anyone who might testify. He knows you have Elena. He knows you have the real files. And he is furious.”

“Then help us,” I said. “Step away from him. Testify. Tell the world what you know.”

“I cannot,” Marcus said. “He knows too much about me. He will destroy me. And then he will kill Noah. I have seen him do it before. He will not hesitate.”

“Then help me protect the boy,” I said. “Tell me where he is hiding his weaknesses. Tell me how to end this without more blood.”

Marcus was silent for a long time.

“He has one weakness,” Marcus said quietly. “One secret he has guarded his entire life. Claire knew it. She wrote it down. It is in the master file. The one you hold.”

“What is it?”

“Read the last page,” Marcus said. “The very last page. And then decide if you are strong enough to finish what Claire started.”

The call ended.

I walked to the table. Found the last page.

And I read.
